02 · Descent

From here in, the work is on the inside.

03 · Under the shell

The shell is what you see. The duty happens inside.

A tower is judged on one number: how close it holds the cold water to the ambient wet bulb. That number is decided by the fill, the distribution and the air path, none of which you can see once the casing is on.

04 · Heat transfer

A fraction of the water leaves. That is the cooling.

Film fill spreads the water into a thin sheet across an enormous surface. Air drawn upward evaporates a small part of it, and that evaporation carries the heat away. Everything else in the tower exists to serve this one exchange.

Inside the tower

The shell is what you see. The duty happens inside.

Hot return to cold supply

  1. Stage 01

    Fan and drive

An induced draught axial fan pulls ambient air up through the tower. The air leaves warmer and close to saturated, carrying the rejected heat with it.

    Air out

  2. Stage 02

    Drift eliminators

Closely spaced blades force the leaving air to change direction several times, throwing entrained droplets back into the tower instead of onto your site.

    Carryover controlled

  3. Stage 03

    Water distribution

A rotary sprinkler spreads hot return water evenly across the full plan area. A dry patch of fill contributes nothing, so even coverage is not a detail.

    Even coverage

  4. Stage 04

    Fill pack

PVC film fill creates an enormous water surface inside a small volume. This is where the heat actually leaves, as a small fraction of the water evaporates.

    Where heat leaves

  5. Stage 05

    Basin and return

Cooled water collects in the moulded FRP basin and returns to the plant. Make up water replaces only what evaporated and what left as blowdown.

ScaleOff technology

Scale prevention without a chemical regime.

ScaleOff converts dissolved calcium carbonate from calcite, which bonds hard to hot surfaces, into aragonite, which stays suspended and passes through the system. The water chemistry is otherwise unchanged, so the supply stays fit for drinking and for food contact duty.

Why Weldon

What actually separates one tower supplier from another.

Most suppliers can quote a tower. The differences show up two years later, in whether the unit still holds its approach and whether anyone answers the phone.

  1. 01

    One accountable party

Design, manufacture, erection, commissioning and maintenance are all handled in house, so there is nobody to point at when something needs resolving.

  2. 02

    Approvals that clear procurement

PAN India Military Engineering Services approval, plus CPWD, PWD, DRDO, BHEL and Airports Authority of India registration for government and defence tenders.

  3. 03

    Sized against real conditions

Selections are calculated from your heat load and site wet bulb, not scaled from a catalogue table, so the tower holds its approach in service.

  4. 04

    Corrosion resistant by construction

FRP shells and PVC internals do not rot or rust, which is why our towers outlast timber and mild steel units in aggressive water.

  5. 05

    Treatment without a chemical regime

ScaleOff conditioning protects heat transfer surfaces with no dosing, no salt, no power and nothing for your maintenance team to manage.

  6. 06

Service for any make of tower

Our spares and maintenance work covers towers we did not build, so a single contractor can look after the whole site.

Industries served

Where our towers work hardest.

Every sector puts a different demand on a cooling circuit. Some need a very close approach, some need to survive aggressive water, and some simply cannot stop for maintenance during a season.

Podcast

Nearly three decades of it, told by the founder.

Our founder sat down with the VMITR podcast for a long conversation about how Weldon Engineers started, what the first years actually cost, and how a manufacturing business of this size ends up on approval lists like the Military Engineering Services.

  • How the company started, and the years before it worked
  • Running a manufacturing business rather than a trading one
  • Earning approvals that are hard to get
  • What he tells people who are starting out

Common questions

Questions we are asked before every order.

If your question is not here, call and ask. You will reach someone who can answer it.

What size cooling tower do I need?

Tower selection depends on four numbers: the heat load in tons of refrigeration or kilocalories per hour, the circulating water flow rate, the range between hot and cold water temperatures, and the design wet bulb temperature at your site. Send us those and we will return a sized selection. If you do not have them, our engineers can work them back from your chiller or process data.

How long does an FRP cooling tower last?

The FRP shell itself does not rot or corrode and will typically remain serviceable for well over fifteen years. Wear parts have shorter lives: PVC fill generally needs renewal every five to eight years depending on water quality, and drive belts, bearings and nozzles are routine maintenance items.

Is ScaleOff a magnetic water treatment device?

No. ScaleOff works catalytically, converting dissolved calcium carbonate from calcite into aragonite so it stays in suspension instead of bonding to hot surfaces. It uses no magnets, no electricity, no salt and no chemicals, which is why it carries a ten year guarantee and needs no servicing.

Do you service cooling towers that you did not supply?

Yes. We carry fills, drift eliminators, nozzles, fan blades, motors, gearboxes and float valves for towers of any make, and our crews fit them during planned shutdowns. Most underperforming towers can be brought back to rated duty for a fraction of replacement cost.

Are you approved for government and defence projects?

Yes. We hold PAN India approval from the Military Engineering Services, and we are registered with CPWD, PWD, DRDO, BHEL, the Airports Authority of India and NBCC. We can supply the documentation your tender process requires.

Which regions and countries do you supply?

We supply and erect across India from our New Delhi base, with installations documented in Haryana, Rajasthan, Jammu and Andhra Pradesh among others. We have also exported engineered cooling systems to the United States and Brazil.

Tell us the duty and we will size it

Send your heat load, flow rate and site conditions, or simply describe the problem. An engineer will come back with a sized selection and a budget figure, not a brochure.
