Cooling Towers

What Actually Drives FRP Cooling Tower Cost in India

We will not publish a price list, because a tower is engineered to a duty. What we can do is explain exactly which decisions move the number, so you can read a quotation properly.

Why nobody credible publishes a price list

A cooling tower is not a catalogue item with a tonnage and a price. Two towers of the same nominal TR can differ in cost by a wide margin because they have been sized against different approach temperatures, different wet bulbs and different water.

Any supplier quoting purely on tonnage without asking about approach or location is guessing, and the number will be revised once the real conditions surface. That is worth knowing before you compare offers.

Approach temperature, the biggest lever

Approach moves cost more than anything else. Tightening from 5 degrees to 3 degrees on the same heat load can increase tower size by half again, because the last degree of cooling is by far the hardest to obtain.

This is where money is most often wasted. A specification that asks for a 3 degree approach because it sounds safe, when the plant is perfectly happy at 4, is buying capacity it will never use.

Ask the process what temperature it genuinely needs, then specify the approach from that.

The specification decisions that matter

After approach, these are the choices that visibly move a quotation:

  • Fill grade. Low fouling fill costs more than standard film fill and is the right call on dirty water.
  • Fan drive. Direct drive is cheapest, belt drive sits in the middle, a right angle gearbox costs most and lasts longest on large cells.
  • Number of cells. Splitting a duty across more cells costs more but allows maintenance without shutting the plant down.
  • Structure. Pultruded FRP costs more than hot dip galvanised steel and does not corrode.
  • Motor rating and efficiency class, which changes both capital cost and the running cost for the life of the tower.

Scope is where quotations stop being comparable

Two offers for the same tower can differ by a large margin purely because one includes erection and the other does not. Before comparing prices, confirm exactly what each covers.

Ask specifically whether the figure includes freight to site, unloading, erection, mechanical commissioning, the civil basin, header piping and valving, electrical supply to the motor, and a witnessed performance test at handover.

A tower supplied loose to your gate is a genuinely different purchase from one erected, commissioned and proven, and the cheaper line item is often the more expensive project.

Approvals and compliance

For government, defence and public sector work, the supplier has to hold current registrations before they can bid at all. That constrains the field and is a legitimate part of what you are buying.

We supply under PAN India approval from the Military Engineering Services, and are registered with CPWD, PWD, DRDO, BHEL, the Airports Authority of India and NBCC. Where a tender requires documentation, we can provide it.

How to get a quotation you can rely on

Send the heat load, the circulating flow rate, the inlet and outlet water temperatures and your location. Add the plot dimensions, any height or noise limit, and a water analysis if you have one.

With those in hand we will return a sized selection, a general arrangement drawing and a scope that states plainly what is included. If a cheaper arrangement would serve you just as well, we will say so, because a tower that disappoints in its second summer costs us more than the margin on the first sale.

Next step

Tell us the duty and we will size it

Send your heat load, flow rate and site conditions, or simply describe the problem. An engineer will come back with a sized selection and a budget figure, not a brochure.
